Real World Wind Test

HOW THE WIND TEST WORKS:
The University of Arizona set up 8 grids of catch-cans, each with their own water meter, and a weather station to log wind speed and direction during at least 30 days worth of irrigation cycles. After each 1/2 inch of water irrigation cycle, they recorded the water level in each can. The first value calculated after each irrigation cycle, per plot, was Application Efficiency - AE - which is a measure of how much water thrown actually makes it into the target zone. The second value determined from the data was Distribution Uniformity - DU - which is a measure of how evenly water was applied to the zone. These two data points were then compared to the average wind speed at each irrigation cycle.

REAL WORLD SAVINGS
Over the course of the study, Rain Bird's High Efficiency nozzles got 80% of the total water thrown into the target zone versus the leading competitor's 63%. Simply put, the more water you get into the target zone, the less water you waste. In addition, it was scientifically determined that at just a 5MPH wind, the leading competitor's distribution uniformity dropped 13% more percentage points, as compared to Rain Bird's High Efficiency nozzles.
