Rain Bird Bolsters Its Commitment to The Intelligent Use of Water As Both the ESP-SMT and SST Smart Controllers Obtain WaterSense Certification for Efficiency, Performance, and Demonstrated Water-Savings
AZUSA, CALIF. - (June 12, 2012) – Rain Bird, the leading manufacturer and provider of irrigation products and services, is proud to announce that both its SST Smartand ESP-SMTe weather-based irrigation controllers have been awarded the WaterSense Label by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The announcement comes following a rigorous third-party testing and verification process that evaluated each controller according to the WaterSense program’s stringent criteria for water efficiency and performance. Only those controllers that meet or exceed the standards, including a 20 percent or more reduction in water use, are awarded WaterSense certification.
“We are honored to have both of our controllers evaluated and deemed worthy of carrying the WaterSense Label,” said Rain Bird’s Director of Corporate Marketing, Dave Johnson. “Much like the Energy Star program has done for reducing residential energy use, the WaterSense labeling program is a major step toward empowering consumers with the ability to easily identify and choose water-efficient irrigation products that use less water while performing as well as or better than conventional models in their landscapes.”
Designed to be a less complex and less expensive version of the weather-based control systems currently used to maximize water efficiency at large installations such as golf courses, sports fields and parks, Rain Bird’s ESP-SMTe provides homeowners with a precise, yet easy-to-use water management solution for the lawn and garden. Available to homeowners through an irrigation professional, the innovative irrigation controller maximizes water efficiency by factoring data on soil type, lawn slope, sun exposure, historical and real-time weather conditions to create a customized watering schedule that is in-step with changing weather conditions.
For the do-it-yourselfer, Rain Bird’s SST Smart Controller utilizes much of the same proprietary automatic self-adjusting weather sensing technology to optimally water lawns and gardens year round without needing to constantly reprogram the controller according to changing weather conditions. Engineered with Rain Bird’s “Simple Set Timer” technology, the SST Smart Controller is designed to be easily installed and programmed by everyday consumers and is the first and only WaterSense Certified irrigation controller currently available at major retail stores.
Since its founding, the EPA’s WaterSense program has focused on building a national brand for water efficiency and in doing so, educate American consumers on making smart water choices that save money and maintain high environmental standards without compromising performance.
“We have been a supporter of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) program since the beginning because Rain Bird recognizes the responsibility that the irrigation industry has to continue developing the technology that leads to more efficient means of applying water in the landscape,” added Johnson. “We look forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand with our industry partners to educate consumers and change behaviors as it relates to outdoor water use.”
