Frequently Asked Questions

ESP-LXME Controller

Why is the Alarm light on the controller front panel illuminated?

Turn dial to Auto and press Alarm button to view Alarm messages.
- Alarm message: Program will not auto run. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System. Select Program Summary to view missing programming information.
- Alarm message: Station Short. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select Raster Wiring Test.
- Alarm message: No Modules or No Base Module. Check modules. Remove and reseat modules.
- Alarm message: Flow Alarm. Turn dial to Flow Smart Module - Module Status and select View Flow Alarms to view flow alarms. Select Clear Flow Alarms to clear flow alarms.

Why are the red lights on all modules flashing?

The controller front panel is not connected to the controller. Check the ribbon cable.

Why is the red light on a single module flashing?

- The module is not seated properly. Remove and reseat the module.
- A valve wire short circuit has been detected on its module. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select Raster Wiring Test to test valve wiring.

Why is the blue light on the Flow Smart Module flashing?

The blue light flashes when flow is detected by the flow sensor.

Why is the Alarm light illuminated and a screen message is telling me a Module Configuration Change has been detected?

- A station module has either been added, moved, removed or can no longer be detected by the controller.
- If you just changed your module configuration, follow the on-screen instructions to accept the new modem configuration.
- If you have not changed your modem configuration, follow the on-screen instructions to see the module configuration change. Check the module that has changed. Remove and reinstall the module.

Why are valves operating on the wrong dates/times?

- Date/time is not set correctly. Turn dial to Set Current Date, Set Current Time and set current date/time.
- Unknown Start Days/Times have been entered. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select Program Review.  Review the controller programming and remove any unwanted Start Days/Times.
- A Program Water Window has delayed watering. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select Program Review. Review Programs. Change Program Water Window to allow all full program run time.

Why can’t the controller turn on the valve(s)?

Valve may not be wired correctly or solenoid may be broken. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select Raster Wiring Test to test valve wires and solenoid.

 

ESP-LXD Decoder Controller

Why is the Alarm light on the controller front panel illuminated?

Turn dial to Auto and press Alarm button to view Alarm messages.
- Alarm message: Program will not auto run. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System. Select Program Summary to view missing programming information.
- Alarm message: Short Detect Mode. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select 2-Wire Diagnostics.
- Alarm message:  No Decoder Module. Check module. Remove and reseat module.
- Alarm message:  Flow Alarm. Turn dial to Flow Smart Module - Module Status and select View Flow Alarms to view flow alarms. Select Clear Flow Alarms to clear flow alarms.
- Alarm message: Duplicate Decoder Address. Turn dial to Setup Wizards, select decoder with duplicate address and change to the correct address.

Why does the controller report that the 2-Wire Path is Off?

Turn dial to Off.  Select 2-Wire Path button and press On.

When I program station run times, why does the screen say “No Decoder Address”?

Turn dial to Setup Wizards and select Station Setup.  Complete the setup wizard, entering a decoder address for each station.

One of my four 2-wire paths has been cut/damaged. How do I continue using the valves on my other 2-wire paths while I fix the cut/damaged 2-wire path?

Disconnect the damaged 2-wire path from the decoder module terminal strip and leave the other 2-wire paths connected.

The controller reports the Short Detect Mode is on due to a short on one of my 2-wire paths. How do I figure out which of my 2-wire paths has the short?

Disconnect all the 2-wire paths. The controller will exit the Short Finding Mode.  Reconnect one 2-wire path at a time and monitor the controller display. When you add the 2-wire path that is shorted, the controller will automatically turn on the Short Finding Mode.

Why is the lower light on a decoder module(s) not illuminated?

The Decoder Module has detected a 2-wire path short and is in Short-Finding Mode.  Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select 2-Wire Diagnostics.

The controller reports that a weather sensor is preventing or pausing watering. How can I determine the status of my weather sensors?

Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System. Select Weather Sensor Status to see the status of all Weather Sensors.

I need to repair a valve on my system but I have a Normally Open Master Valve. How do I turn of the Master Valve?

Turn dial to Off.  MV Off follow directions to manually close the Normally Open Master Valve.

Why are valves operating on the wrong dates/times?

Why can't the controller turn on the valve(s)?

- Controller may not be wired correctly to the decoder or the decoder to the valve. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select 2-Wire Diagnostics to test decoders, valve wires and solenoid.
- 2-Wire Path may be damaged/disconnected. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select 2-Wire Diagnostics to test decoders.
- Decoder address may not be correct. Turn dial to Test All Stations / Check System and select 2-Wire Diagnostics to test decoders.

 

IQ™ v2.0 Central Control

I have installed an NCC-GP, NCC-EN, or NCC-WF Cartridge in my ESP-LX Series Controller.  How do I configure the cartridge (IP Address, Network information, etc.) so I can connect from the IQ central computer?

Install and launch the IQ NCC Configurator Software on a computer you can connect to the cartridge via the IQNCCNMC Null Modem Cable (provided with your IQ Software Package.  Follow the instructions in the application to connect and configure the cartridge.

I have just installed an IQ NCC Cartridge into my ESP-LX Series Controller. How do I copy the programming out of my controller into the IQ application?

In the IQ application, add a new Satellite and configure the communication. Select the Auto Configure option from the Satellite Configure tab screen.  Check all the check boxes and select Ok. All programming information from the controller will be copied to the IQ application. You only have this option available on the initial satellite communication connection unless you have purchased the IQ Advanced Programming Software Feature Pack.

The Alarm or Warning icon on the IQ System Status bar is illuminated and has a number below it. What is this?

One or more Alarms or Warnings have been posted in the Event Log and require your attention. Click on the Alarm or Warning button to see the Event Log message details and address the reported issues.

Someone at the site turned the Satellite dial position to Off. I need to irrigate now. Do I need to drive to the site or can I override this dial position from IQ?

Select Satellite Manual Operations. Connect to the Satellite.  Select Change Settings and Override Satellite Dial Position to Auto.  The Controller will display a message telling the Field Personnel that you have overridden the Dial Position to Auto.

Rain is forecasted for the next two days. How do I turn off watering on my Satellites from IQ?

- Turn Satellites Off: From the IQ Home screen Select Auto/Off. Select the Satellite(S) and Select Off.  Synchronize the Satellites. Follow the same steps to turn the Satellites back on.
- Set a Rain Delay: From the IQ Home screen Select Rain Delay. Select the Satellite(S) and Select the number Of days you want the Satellite to be Off before automatically turning back on. Synchronize the Satellites. Follow the same steps to override the Rain Delay setting.
- Rain Sensor: If you have installed Rain Sensor at the Satellite, the Sensor will automatically prevent watering when the Sensor measures Rain.
- Automated ET: If you are using the Advanced ET Software Feature Pack, the programming will automatically adjusted based on the amount Of Rain the weather source measured.

Unauthorized personnel at the site keep changing my satellite programming. How do I prevent this?

The IQ Advanced Programming Software Feature Pack includes a Satellite PIN-Code Protection feature which prevents unauthorized personnel from making Satellite programming changes. Each Satellite can have up to 5 PIN-Codes. Authorized personnel will enter their 4-digit PIN to access controller programming. You can configure each Satellite to allow access to only the Auto, Off, and Test All Stations / Check System dial positions or block all dial positions.

I want to add an additional Satellite to my IQ System but the software is telling me I have reached my purchased Satellite capacity. How can I get additional Satellite capacity on my system?

IQ Software Satellite capacity is sold in 5-Satellite increments. Order the IQ5SATSWU 5-Satellite Capacity Upgrade to expand the total system capacity by 5-Satellites. Order multiple upgrades to achieve whatever total capacity required. Contact Rain Bird GSP (Global Support Plan) to get the IQ Software Activation Keycode for your new system capacity.
